Teaching Online Seminars (TOL6100 & TOL7100)


The seminar is open to all UNF faculty, and preference is given to:

  • Full-time, tenured, or tenure-track applicants
  • Faculty who teach in programs transitioning to distance-learning delivery
  • Applicants who have not previously participated in the seminar

Seminar Structure
The goal of TOL6100 is to prepare instructors to develop and deliver high-quality distance learning. In order to meet that goal, instructors need quality training on common pedagogical, logistical, and technological strategies. This intensive seminar covers pedagogy, course design, instructional strategies, communication strategies, and online assessment. The co-requisite course TOL4100: Teaching Online Tools Essentials (online) must be completed before or during the TOL6100 course.

  • TOL6100 is offered in a hybrid format that includes a face-to-face kickoff day, five online modules, a face-to-face roundtable discussion (half day), and face-to-face culminating presentation day. Throughout the seminar faculty participate in individual instructional design consultations - including graphic and media development support.
  • Faculty may apply for any cohort in which they will be available for all of the in-person meetings.

In order to successfully complete the seminar participants must:

  • Complete all assignments with 70% or better score
  • Attend all seminar sessions
  • Stay in regular contact with assigned instructional design group

Upon successful completion of all seminar activities and assignments, participants will receive:

  • $2000 stipend
  • Certification to develop and deliver distance learning courses at UNF





This seminar is a self-paced online seminar course designed to assist faculty with their development of a high-quality distance learning course. The objective of TOL7100 is that participants design and develop an online course and complete a successful Quality Matters course review within one year of TOL7100 start date. **TOL6100 is a required prerequisite.

  • In contrast to TOL6100, participants in TOL7100 are not required to attend face-to-face seminars or submit assignments.
  • TOL7100 is organized into three phases (Getting Started, Design and Development, and Course Review). Each phase provides participants with basic guidance to support their course development.
  • Participants may choose a guided track in which they work closely with an instructional designer (ID) to create a Course Development Plan that contains benchmarks and deadlines, or they may choose an independent track in which there are occasional meetings with an ID to discuss course development issues, but the overall course development process is self-managed.

Faculty may apply at any point after TOL6100 completion for entry into TOL7100. A maximum of 50 applicants will be accepted in each fiscal year. Chair support to offer the course in a distance learning format is required.

  • To apply, faculty should complete the online application, and secure their chair’s approval to offer the course in a distance learning format during the next academic year.
  • The Chair Approval Form must be signed by the academic department chair and returned to CIRT by email to cirtlab@unf.edu or by campus mail to Tina Stanton, CIRT, 10/1150. Applicants will be contacted by a member of the instructional design team within two weeks of a completed application, including chair approval form.

Upon successful completion of the course review, participants will receive:

  • $1000 stipend
