In 2012, the University of North Florida partnered with Florida Campus Compact (FL/CC) and Learn and Serve America to support the integration of Service-Learning into courses that focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplinary issues. There was also an interest on courses with a focus on Environmental Sustainability and Community Health issues. The STEM Service-Learning Fellows program supported faculty in the redesign and implementation of Service-Learning courses which aligned with the university’s goal of integrating Community-Based Transformational Learning (CBTL) throughout UNF’s curriculum.
Applications were accepted and processed on a rolling basis until filled in January 2012.

Participants completed course redesign around Community-Based Learning (particularly Service Learning).
At the completion of phase 2 faculty fellows received two-thirds ($1000 -total includes FICA) of their stipend as payment for their participation in the program.
*These artifacts were scored by independent raters using the appropriate CBTL rubric and the aggregate data was shared with the faculty member and also used for University reporting.
At the completion of phase 3 faculty fellows received the final third ($500 -total includes FICA) of their stipend as payment for their participation in the program.
