Coggin College of Business

How does your gift put Northeast Florida ahead of the curve?

Coggin-classroomThe Coggin College of Business is committed to educating and developing business professionals to serve the needs of 21st century organizations. Our highly qualified faculty are devoted to student learning that has a decidedly global perspective and prepares students to be lifelong learners. Our continuing excellence is formally acknowledged through our AACSB accreditation, a designation held by less than 7 percent of the world’s business schools.

More than 14,000 University of North Florida business graduates are using their technical expertise and leadership skills to put our region ahead of the curve in the global economy.

Gifts to the business school have helped hundreds of students with scholarships, brought experienced faculty and visiting lecturers to campus and supplied the latest technology to our labs and classrooms, which are now at capacity due to the great popularity of our programs.

Scholarships: $200,000

Endowed scholarships will ensure students throughout the College can continue to participate in transformational learning opportunities.

Graduate Fellowships: $300,000

Fellowships are needed to help recruit and support outstanding graduate students for the MBA and Master of Accountancy programs.

Faculty Chairs and Professorships: $2 million

An endowed chair will strengthen and grow our important programs by helping UNF recruit nationally and internationally recognized scholars.

Professorships provide research funding that help recruit and retain exceptional teachers and scholars. This is a particularly urgent need due to rising global competition for the finest faculty.

Academic Enhancements: $2.75 million

Coggin, computersIncreased funding for the Career Management Center will improve support for business students as well for companies with recruiting and internship needs.

Support for the Center for International Business Studies will fund increased research, scholarships and fellowships and infuse a global appreciation of the marketplace in all disciplines.

Funding is also needed to enhance all academic programs and to continue to provide cutting-edge technology resources for students and faculty.

The Dean’s Fund responds to annual needs of the Coggin College of Business by providing support for faculty development, technological needs and crucial operating support for the College.

Facilities and Equipment: $3 million

Funding is needed to enhance the current building and the planned expansion, including a computer facility with software technology on par with that of large logistics firms.

When Luther and Blanche Coggin made the largest gift in UNF history to name the Coggin College of Business, they recognized the College’s tremendous value to North Florida’s business community.

The College is one of only seven percent of business schools in the world that are internationally accredited by the AACSB. Its rigorous, relevant bachelor’s and master’s degree programs are featured in the 2007 edition of The Princeton Review’s publication on best business schools.

Just look at what we have accomplished with donor support:

Coggin, studentsThe international business program is among the top in the country in the number of students studying and interning abroad. The College’s Global MBA was one of the first programs to enable an international group of students to complete their studies together at a series of universities throughout the world. To build on faculty strengths and encourage the global perspective so critical to business success today, UNF designated the international business program as a flagship program that would receive additional strategic funding.

Transportation and Logistics, also a flagship program, ranked 13th in the nation by Supply Chain Management Review. Most graduates employ their talents locally in the First Coast’s many logistics facilities, manufacturing plants and port operations. Students benefit from new UNF resources such as a state-of-the-art Logistics Information Technology Solutions Laboratory.

Life-transforming opportunities abound. Students in the Osprey Financial Group experience Wall Street in our real-time financial trade room, where they manage a UNF Foundation investment fund that routinely outperforms the S&P 500. The fund has grown substantially from the original gift by Jody and Layton Smith of $500,000. The UNF chapter of Students in Free Enterprise regularly places among the top teams in the nation for the innovative programs it develops.Coggin-TLS

Practical experience and strong academics are a winning combination at the Coggin College. Our graduating seniors and MBAs consistently score in the top 10 percent on national exams and accounting graduates are employed at the top national and regional CPA firms.

The College supports entrepreneurs in all fields through a minor in entrepreneurship. It offers forums and conferences for local businesses and youth, and the UNF Small Business Development Center has helped more businesses than any other center in the state.

In a typical year the center will counsel more than a thousand clients and assist dozens of start up businesses.
