The UNF Alumni Association selected Kami Richmond as the recipient of the Senior Service Award for the spring 2016 graduating class. The UNF Alumni Association selects a graduating senior each semester for outstanding service to the University and the community through volunteerism.
Kami is a graduate of the Coggin College of Business with a bachelor of business administration majoring in both international business and economics with a minor in Chinese. Kami has been a stellar student while at UNF, receiving several scholarships, and earning herself a place on both the Dean’s List and President’s Honor Roll consistently since 2012. While maintaining a 3.93 grade point average, Kami dedicated her extra time to serving the University of North Florida, Jacksonville and the international community.
Kami’s service to UNF began in her first weeks as a freshman when she began training to become a member of the Swoop Squad, volunteering to give campus tours and assist at orientations. By her sophomore year, Kami became a paid tour guide and expanded her responsibilities to include recruiting potential students and assisting with training new Swoop Squad members. Kami shared that she loved giving campus tours because of the look high school students got in their eyes the moment they realized that UNF was the perfect fit for them.
In the spring of 2015, Kami began serving as a Coggin College of Business Student Ambassador. Coggin Ambassadors play an integral role in the execution of programs presented by the Career Management Center and the Coggin College of Business. By participating in the program, Kami not only gained the opportunity to network with peers and business professionals, but also the opportunity to represent one of UNF’s six prestigious colleges. Kami would also actively assist in raising awareness for the Coggin Ambassador program to encourage her fellow business students to pursue professional development opportunities.
Her campus involvement was extensive. Kami also served on the Student Conduct Board, contributing to upholding the moral standard to which students are held, was the International Projects Director with the UNF Rotaract Club and a soccer coach with World Relief Jacksonville through the UNF Hicks Honors College.
Kami’s dedication to service goes beyond the University of North Florida. In the Jacksonville community, Kami has dedicated her time volunteering in Global Community Outreach with the World Affairs Council, as a student consultant with the City Rescue Mission and as a Sunday school teacher at Christian Family Chapel. Kami’s dedication to service expanded internationally while studying abroad in Beijing, China when she became involved with Alenah’s Home, a nonprofit foster home for orphans with special needs.
Kami shared that these service opportunities, which UNF helped to provide, have aided her in realizing that her passion has the potential to become a career in nonprofit management. Her many involvements and contributions reflect that she is a remarkable Osprey. Kami is a true example of a passionate, conscientious and altruistic leader and a great representative of the University of North Florida.
