Awards, Scholarships and Grants

University of North Florida Distinguished Alumni Awards 

The University of North Florida Alumni Association annually seeks and accepts nominations for the UNF Distinguished Alumni Awards. Award selection is made from candidates who possess the highest standards of integrity and character; who have distinguished themselves through professional accomplishment or by their service or philanthropy to UNF; and who positively reflect and enhance the prestige of the university.  Award categories are outlined below, and nomination details can be found here.

 

Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award is the highest honor given to a graduate of the university. To be nominated for this award, a UNF graduate must have made significant contributions to his or her profession, community and/or society, and have consistently maintained the pursuit of excellence as a representative and graduate of UNF. Selection criteria include:

 

  • Degree from the University of North Florida
  • Highest level of professional accomplishments
  • Voluntary service on a local, state, national or international level may strengthen the nomination and should be noted.
  • Special honors or recognition may also be considered

Distinguished Alumni Award

Young Alumni Achievement Award

Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented to alumni of UNF for outstanding professional achievement, contributions to the community and exemplary service to the University. The recipient must have completed his/her UNF degree within the last 10 years. Selection criteria include:

 

  • Degree from the University of North Florida within the past 10 years
  • High level of professional accomplishment
  • Voluntary Service to University of North Florida and participation in other clubs, service organizations, or community involvement within the past 10 years 
  • Special honors or recognition may also be considered

Alumni Service Award

The Alumni Service Award is presented to alumni of UNF who have demonstrated continuous outstanding volunteer service to UNF and/or meritorious public service on a local, state, national or international level. Candidates must possess the highest standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of UNF. Selection criteria include:

 

  • Graduated from or previously attended the University of North Florida
  • Demonstrated continuing outstanding voluntary service to UNF and/or meritorious public service on a local, state, national or international level, including through clubs, service organizations, and community involvement.

Honorary Alumni Award

This award is given to friends and supporters of UNF for exemplary service to the University. Special consideration is given to the number of lives impacted by their work. Consideration is also given to candidates who communicate the quality of education at UNF to others in the community. Honorary alumni have the privilege of the floor at all meetings of the Association, but they may not vote or hold office. Selection criteria include:

  • Not a graduate of the University of North Florida
  • Demonstrated continuing outstanding voluntary service to the University of North Florida on a local, state, national or international level.

Honorary Alumni Award

Johnson Medallion

The Johnson Medallion is named in honor of Dorothy Johnson, class of 1974. It was established and presented to Dorothy in 2006 in honor of her long-standing commitment and dedication to the University of North Florida and to the Alumni Association. The Johnson Medallion is presented to those graduates of the University of North Florida who are intensely loyal to UNF and who demonstrate the same exemplary service as Dorothy. Nominees must possess the following characteristics:

 

  • True commitment and sincere interest in the future of the university
  • Long-term and consistent involvement at UNF and with the Alumni Association
  • Active participation and considerable volunteer hours
  • Financially supportive across multiple areas of the University

Student Awards, Scholarships, and Grants

Senior Service Award

Now accepting nominations for the summer 2016 Senior Service Award. Nominations can be submitted by from faculty, staff and students, and are due by Friday, June 3, 2016. Click here for a nomination form. 

 

This award is presented at each commencement ceremony to a graduating senior who has made significant contributions to the University and/or the community through volunteerism while maintaining an outstanding academic record. The recipient receives a commemorative plaque, a check for $500, is recognized in the commencement program, and sits on the platform during commencement.

UNF Alumni Association Journey Scholarship 

This award provides financial assistance for students enrolled in study-abroad programs or faculty-led classes that include a travel component. Scholarships will be awarded on a case-by-case basis and based on the availability of funds.

Club Grants

The UNF Alumni Association is proud to offer grant funding for student clubs searching for sponsors to fund a specific project, trip, or cause. Two Club Grants, up to $1,000 per club, will be awarded.
