Florida LambdaRail (FLR) was formed by higher education institutions to advance optical research and education networking within Florida. FLR establishes a foundation for the next-generation networks needed to support large-scale research, education outreach, public/private partnerships and IT infrastructure essential to economic development.
FLR is part of a larger national fiber optic network, the National LambdaRail (NLR), linking research institutions around the country with connectivity to international research networks. Building a stable, high-bandwidth statewide network is essential to Florida's education and research goals, and is a vital element in Florida's economic development strategy. Florida LambdaRail will establish the state of Florida on the cutting edge of computer connectivity, and provide strong economic development potential through industry partnerships with Florida's colleges and universities.
