Caregiver,
My name is Dr. Kathy Robinson, and I am an Associate
Professor of Nursing at the
University of
North
Florida. I have over thirty years
of experience as a nurse, but more importantly, I have ten years
of experience as a family caregiver. I have cared for my
husband’s grandmother after a devastating stroke, my
sister-in-law after a series of strokes, and my mother-in-law
through her battle with ovarian
cancer.
As a nurse researcher, I am interested in family
caregiving, particularly caregiving of patients/family
members/loved ones with complicated medical
illnesses.
I
am designing a web site, caregivervoices.com as a place
where caregivers can feel comfortable sharing their stories with
me and other caregivers.
Nobody can speak to the needs and concerns of family
caregivers better than family caregivers, themselves. I hope
that the stories gathered on this site can be used to help
health care professionals and policy makers better understand
the needs of caregivers.
This site will eventually include a discussion board,
links to informative sites, and other topics of interest to
caregivers. This
site will NEVER generate pop-up ads or commercial
advertisements, nor will any lists of subscribers be
sold to others.
This is a site for caregivers, by caregivers and about
caregivers.

Right
now, I am interested in how family caregivers cope during
natural disasters such as hurricanes. I would like to have
phone conversations with family caregivers who have recently
experienced such an event
(Charley,
Frances,
Ivan, wildfires, etc.).
