Howls and Meows was started in 1985 by Marsha Stanford. She started the company because she wanted to dress her Italian Greyhound, Iggy, for success. Because of the lack of dog boutiques in her area she decided to open one of her own. Howls and Meows was opened in Jacksonville, Florida on March 17, 1985. Since then it has grown to more than a dozen stores in the Jacksonville and St. Augustine area.
