| Selecting a Database by Name |

If a researcher already knows which database he or she wants to search, the starting point is to choose the database from the FirstSearch "Select a Database" pull-down menu pictured above. If, for example, the researcher has used ECO before to find full text articles on psychology, then this is the quick way in. Novice users beware: Database names may not give a good indication of exact coverage. Some databases may just cover directory information. If the research goal is to find journal articles, directory listings will not help. A researcher unfamiliar with the FirstSearch system might want to begin with one of the general search categories or use FirstSearch's "Suggest Best" option to choose an appropriate starting place. |
