Selecting a Database by Browsing Broad Subjects

In the above sample, we've chosen to enter a FirstSearch search session by choosing a database from a general category. Note that the pull-down menu shows 16 categories from which to choose. Each of these categories will provide a list of databases that are recommended starting points for finding information in journals, magazines, newspapers, and books. Keep in mind that these are recommendations in general that may work well for some topics, but may not be the best selections for very specific research needs. These are starting places that usually will produce usable results. Once a researcher selects a category, for example, Arts & Humanities, FirstSearch will deliver a list of recommended databases in which to begin the search.

This is one way to begin.
