Doing a Basic Search in ECO
ECO Basic Search

The Basic Search screen for ECO is pictured above. The same screen will appear for any of the FirstSearch databases, so proficiencies gained by using ECO will transfer into other searches in any of the other FirstSearch databases.

Note that the green navigation panel at the topic of the search input screen changes to accommodate changing databases and changing search modes (Basic, Advanced, Expert). Just above the input panel are four icons: Index, News, Browse Titles, and Help. Use the Index button to browse through all index terms included in the database. This can be useful for checking word spellings and for discovering new search terms. Use the News button to get updates on the database and its offerings. Use the Browse Titles button to search for the names of specific journals covered in ECO. Use the Help button for context-sensitive search tips and suggestions.

When ready to search, type in a topic in the Keyword input box and choose if the search should be limited only to full text articles. You can also limit the search to a particular journal and to a specific period of time. Once you have completed your selections, press the Search button to send the search.
